The Farm

Our goal is to farm in the most sustainable manner possible. We are small, and are limited on the number of animals we can have here due to zoning issues, so we are taking a breath this year and slowing down a bit. We are raising two Berkshire hogs for our own freezer, have sold enough of our laying flock to make that possible and won’t be able to raise any meat chickens this season for your consumption. We’re not sure what will happen with the farm, but really encourage you to get involved in changing how our food is produced in this country. This could simply be by purchasing more from local, sustainable farms. We know this is more difficult here, in Truckee, than it is in some parts of the country, but we are committed to sharing all information passed our way about local, responsible food choices. You have power in how you spend your money. Think of it as voting with your dollars. You can make a real difference by making small changes.

Our two new puppies are Livestock Guardian Dogs, bred to protect our animals and farm from coyotes, bears, etc. We, also, employ some “barn (feral) cats” from the Humane Society for rodent control. It’s amazing how the dogs, cats and birds can all coexist here on the farm.
